How to make a transparent signature image
A signature saved as a PNG with a transparent background can be dropped onto any document without a white box around it. There are two ways to get one: draw it digitally, or extract it from paper. The first is faster and cleaner; the second is worth the effort only when the paper signature must match exactly.
The clean route: draw it, never photograph it
Drawing on a signature pad produces strokes on an empty canvas — the background is transparent from the start, with no cleanup and no grey halo. Draw slowly and larger than you think you need; a signature captured at a large size and scaled down looks steadier and stays sharp on the page. Use black or a dark ink blue rather than pure grey, which loses contrast when the document is printed.
The paper route: photograph, then remove the background
Sign in dark ink on plain white paper. Photograph it flat in even daylight — no flash and no shadow across the page. Then crop tightly, raise contrast until the paper turns pure white, and remove the white to alpha. The step people skip is contrast: without it the removal leaves a grey film around the strokes that shows up against any coloured background.
Resolution and file size
Roughly 1000 px wide is enough for a signature that will print at a few centimetres. Much larger wastes space in every document you place it in; much smaller shows jagged edges when scaled up. Save as PNG — JPEG has no transparency and will reintroduce the white box you just removed.
